Walter F. Maibaum
Beginning in 1968 as a specialist in European prints, Walter Maibaum is today recognized as a leading authority on original works of art from the first half of the 20th century. He is routinely called upon by professionals and collectors alike for his expertise and to place valuations on works of art ranging from Pablo Picasso to Jackson Pollock.
Over the years, Walter Maibaum has lectured on such topics as market trends, the business of art, developing markets, and how values are placed upon art.
He has served as a moderator and panelist for World Art Market Conferences, and conducted numerous workshops on collecting and appraisals for professional organizations.
Mr. Maibaum is also called upon by the legal community as an expert witness in matters pertaining to authenticity and the valuation of estates, dissolutions, insurance and insurance claims, tax matters and other related art valuation issues. His expertise and knowledge has also led him to be called as an expert witness for the Federal Government.
Having appeared on such programs as NBC’s Today Show, the CBS Evening News and the Wall Street Journal Report, Mr. Maibaum was selected to host television’s The Art Market Report, nationally broadcast every week for over three years (over 400 broadcasts).
Today, Walter Maibaum is considered a leading expert in art of the first half of the 20th Century, and of equal importance, the market and the business of art. His position and expertise have led to consultancies for institutions, professional organizations, corporations, insurance companies and important private collections.
Along with various professional organizations, Mr. Maibaum is also a member of the World Jurist Association and the National Association of Scholars.
